American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to Create 110,000 Jobs in Solar Industry

Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) President & CEO Rhone Resch today commended President Obama for signing the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act into law in Denver, Colorado and commented on how it will help stimulate the solar industry immediately.

“I applaud President Obama for his leadership in crafting an economic recovery bill that will put the country back on track as the economic leader of the world. It is fitting that he has decided to sign the bill into law in a state-of-the-art building, powered by solar energy,” said Resch. “This building is an example of what is happening throughout the U.S.; small businesses installing cutting-edge solar technology funded by local nonprofit project finance resulting in huge taxpayer benefits.”

“The solar industry is poised to lead the new, clean energy economy and the strong solar provisions in this legislation will help give hundreds of thousands of out-of-work Americans a job that they can be proud of. The solar energy provisions in this bill will help create 60,000 jobs in the solar industry in 2009 alone and a total of 110,000 over the next two years,” said Resch. Continue Reading →

Solar Industry May Be Bright Spot for Professionals in Current Recession

California’s solar and renewable energy industry continues to grow dramatically, despite the current financial crisis. The amount of investment in clean tech in the state nearly doubled from 2007 to 2008, reaching as high as $3.3 billion, according to the 2009 California Green Innovation Index, which reported that the state also holds 38 percent of the nationwide solar energy patent registrations made in recent years. “Solar installations under the California Solar Initiative were up 100% in 2008, with the last quarter being among the busiest on record,” says Adam Browning, Executive Director of Vote Solar.

Browning will be part of an industry panel discussing the future of solar and renewable energy for California businesses, jobs, and government agencies. The free event will be held on February 12 at 7 pm at UC Berkeley’s Alumni House and is sponsored by UC Berkeley Extension which offers a professional program in sustainable energy management.
